Research Lab and Caregiver Resources

Michelle S. Bourgeois, Ph.D.


The research lab of Dr. Michelle Bourgeois includes ongoing research projects and provides caregiver resources.
Ongoing research projects are:
- Nursing Home Project
- Spaced Retrieval Study
- CD-Rom Project

Caregiver resources are:
- Memory Disorder Clinic: provides diagnostic services, training, and research to individuals with memory impairments in the following counties: Leon, Gadsden, Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor, Madison, Calhoun, Gulf, Liberty and Franklin.

The focus of the caregiver resources is on spouse and adult children caregivers of patients with dementia or mild cognitive impairment. The resources include information for caregivers on how to deal with problem behaviors, how to improve communication with the patient, and how to get help if caregiving becomes too difficult.

Dr. Michelle Bourgeois has been working in the field of dementia and speech pathology over the past fifteen years. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988. She is currently affiliated with the
Department of Communication Disorders at Florida State University. Her research interests are communication disorders in dementia and Alzheimer's Disease, memory training for older adults with communication and memory problems, and intervention programs for spouse or adult children caregivers of patients with dementia.
