Robert Zemeckis 1952 - ) (Director, Producer and Screenwriter)

Born: 1952, Chicago, IL

Education: Northern Illinois University; USC, Los Angeles (film)

This ‘whizkid’ of special effects films is from the Spielberg school of filmmaking and Steven Spielberg produced many of his films. He and his writing partner Bob Gale have a talent for zany comedy Used Cars (1980), Romancing the Stone (1984), 1941 (1979) Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and the Back to the Future (1985 – 1989) trilogy. Although these films are very entertaining most have well-developed characters, who have something to say. Zemeckis’ more recent films Forrest Gump (1994) and Contact (1997) were critical as well as box office successes. His television work includes producing the off beat Tales from the Crypt series. He won the 1995 best director Oscar for Forrest Gump, which had been developed in part by Spielberg. Then in 1996, he got to present the Oscar to his mentor for directing Schindler’s List.
